Interview Story - Accomplishment
Being the Process Engineering Manager, I was looking for development opportunities for my engineers. I wanted to increase their skills and enhance the abilities of my department.
At a previous employer, I edited test programs for troubleshooting. I wanted to explore my engineers editing test programs for efficiency and opportunities to help our internal customers.
I proposed this to my management as there would be expenses upfront before presenting to our customer. It was approved, and two engineers were selected to attend specialized training to accomplish this.
After training, I worked with management to select a product they could internally experiment with. After two weeks of experimenting, the engineers were able to show they could improve cycle time through our process by 13%.
I put together a presentation for our internal customers. The proposal was that our customer would release the first test program to production. Once released, our engineers would then take ownership of the program. They would look for opportunities to optimize the programs (TTR, stability, yield), and would add any additional edits requested by the customer.
The proposal was accepted and we initiated a pilot program, while the remaining engineers were sent to this specialized training. The program was a huge success. It allowed our customer to focus their resources on new products coming out instead of optimizing the program.
A few years later, our factory unfortunately closed. Due to the specialized training and additional job skills my engineers now had, they were all able to be transferred to other departments within the company.
