Interview Story - Supported Colleague

At Equifax, where I worked in their graphics department, we had a company-wide employee event every February called the Employee Kickoff. This event gave employees the opportunity to understand where the company was headed for the year.

Most department managers were speakers at the event. Using the templates and layouts provided by my department, they created their own PowerPoint presentation – except for one.

While PowerPoint was an essential tool at Equifax, this manager was new and very nervous because he didn’t know PPT at all. He also only had three days to put his presentation together. I was only supposed to create the branded template portion, but I could tell he was really nervous about the whole thing, so I offered to help.

We worked together to meet the deadline. I assisted him with the graphics and layout, asking about his intentions, showing him how to use the software, and sometimes implementing it for him. I also showed him how to create some minor animations that he didn’t know PPT could do. The final presentation was great, and he spoke quite well at the event. He was so thankful that he gave me a $100 VISA Gift Card and gave me credit at the event, in front of hundreds of people.
