Interview Story - Overcame Challenge

While working at Sysco of Toronto as an order picker, I found one of my co-workers, who I know very well was smoking inside the building. This is not a designated area to smoke as it was not safe. So I told him not to smoke again, and that it wasn’t safe as there were some toxic products inside.

But three days after, I saw him smoking again. This time he also had has another guy smoking with him too. So it was a tough decision either to ignore this or to tell my supervisor.

Finally, I told my supervisor (my concern the safety of others). Despite how much I appreciated my friendship with this co-worker, what he was doing wasn’t safe. That second time, I knew he wouldn’t change unless his boss told him otherwise.

The result was that he got suspended for two weeks, and he didn’t talk to me for about 3 months. More importantly, I never again saw him or the other guy smoking inside the building.
