Interview Story - Solved a Problem

As a supply chain manager for Worfin, I was tasked with setting up the equipment for a new wafer test factory in China. This would entail consolidating production lines from multiple factories in Japan, Scotland, France, and the US.

The first step was to have an equipment leader from each factory complete a GAP analysis. Upon reviewing the GAP analysis results, I recognized each facility did things differently. This resulted in different problems at various stages. The requirement to establish critical standards was a primary goal.

I saw this as an opportunity to develop a standardized equipment transfer process. I worked with the equipment leaders from each factory, to list their sites’ high-level processes. A standard process was then decided as a group.

As we reviewed each standard, most were agreed upon through discussion. Others took more effort. One required a separate meeting to go over the pros and cons of the two proposed solutions.

Upon final agreement on all standards, a mock transfer was run “on paper”. Upon that success, an actual pilot transfer was done. All key standards fell into place with only a few additional corrections (mostly due to language translations). We continued to make minor adjustments as the project moved forward. In the end, the result was a process that is now scalable and used for even the smallest equipment transfers.
