How can I remove nervousness?
You can't remove nerves 100%, but you can reduce them and take control. Nerves are good. They are your body pumping you full of energy so that you are completely focused in the job interview.
The key is to direct that energy towards the conversation and away from your internal voice. First, you need to know what you want to say in the job interview; practically memorize key answers to questions you expect. That way, even if you feel nervous, you'll know exactly what to say.
Next, practice interviewing. Write up a list of questions and practice them aloud. Ask family and friends to practice with you. Ask people you don't know well to practice with you. Change the list of questions so you don't know what to expect.
Try to exercise the day before your interview to work off some of that extra energy. And before your interview, do some warm ups to shake loose. Strike poses like Superman and Wonder Woman and hold them for 60 seconds; this will help you feel more confident.
Then during the interview, ignore your doubts and focus on listening to the interviewer 100%. Focus on how your answers can specifically address the interviewer’s concerns and even more important, prove how you match up to the job.
A few more things:
-
Recognize the reasons that you are valuable on the job.
-
Prepare for the questions that you expect, and then do a practice interview so you feel more comfortable.
-
Develop a list of questions that you want to ask the interviewer, so that you can turn the interview into more of a conversation.
